Welches is home to the largest recreational resort facility in the Mt. Hood Corridor named the Resort at the Mountain. The recent multimillion dollar renovatation project for the property has upgraded their rooms, lobby, restaurants, conference facilities, spa, and 27 hole golf course. Originally a family resort owned by the Bowmans, it boasts the very first golf course built in the state of Oregon in 1928. 

Historically, Welches has been a Portland favorite for recreation at the foot of the Mt. Hood Cascades. Welches has the world reknown Fly Fishing Shop with guided tours and fly tying classes.

The schools that serve Welches are located locally. Grade and middle school kids attend the Welches Grade and Middle School. High school kids attend Sandy High School just a bit further West from Welches. Sandy High School is in the midst of building a brand new high school. All schools are in the Oregon Trail School District

Homes and cabins in the area are varied from million dollar properties with Mt. Hood views and acreage to small quaint cabins tucked away on secluded roads. The area includes a subdivsion that wraps around the Resort at the Mountain called Ripplling River with many golf course frontage homes, condos and ammenities. A scattering of traditional homes and older cabins run throughout the area with easy access to the Mt. Hood National Forest.
