Septic Smart for Real Estate Transactions
Septic Smart for Real Estate Transactions
A new requirement for real estate transactions this year is to use a new septic addendum in all real estate transactions starting January 1, 2015. If a home is connected to a septic, cesspool, or seepage pit, ie any residence that is not connected to a sewer system, state law is requiring buyers and sellers use this form in writing their earnest money agreement. Septic Smart Fact Sheet
This all stems from a new program that is called Septic Smart and was developed by DEQ, the Department of Environmental Quality. Septic Smart provides information to the public about septic systems and how they work. It also provides names of DEQ certified septic inspectors who provide existing system reviews.
