Government Camp is an unincorporated community located on the South side of Mt. Hood in Clackamas county. It’s located along the Mt. Hood Corridor near the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 26. Located at an elevation of 3881 feet, the area gets plenty of snow in winter time.

Over the past ten years the area has gone through lots of renovations as a Clackamas County urban renewal district. The area is considering incorporating but the debate is still on.

Recreation: This area boasts several ski areas with Multorpor/Ski Bowl, Timberline, Summit Ski area, and Mt. Hood Meadows. The Timberline Ski area is world reknown for year round skiing and boarding on the Palmer Glacier.

The population of the town in winter and summer months swell. If you walk through Government Camp in the summer you'll hear languages from all over the world. Not only the US ski team but international teams pick Mt. Hood and Government Camp as their landing area for summer training. Mt. Hood received a great deal of notoriety during the last Olympics with many winners training on our mountain.

Government Camp is completely surrounded by the Mt. Hood National Forest. This forest presents unbelievable recreational opportunities from cross country ski trails, hiking trails, mountain biking, mountain climbing, horseback riding, canoeing on Trillium Lake, many alpine lakes, plus camping and fishing. Besides recreational activities there are several shops and restaurants in the area for less adventurous visitors.

Few full time residents live in Government Camp. The schools that serve the area are down the hill in Welches and Sandy in the Oregon Trail School District. Grade and middle school kids attend the Welches Grade and Middle School. High school kids attend Sandy High School just a bit further West from Welches. Sandy High School is in the midst of building a brand new high school.

Properties in the area include high end luxury homes, condos, and rustic cabins. Several home areas that have CC and R's include Alpenglade Park, Multorpor Meadows and Wapinitia. Wapinitia is a development East of Government Camp along the Salmon River with high end homes and chalets. Condo developments include Collins Lake, Grand Lodges, Golden Poles, Thunderhead, Barlow Pass, Eidelweiss, and Sno Bird. Many log and rustic cabins have been built over the years in the area too.
